Many of the leaders and investors at Sespe Investment Group have known each other since as early as 1991. We met through school, work, and personal connections and have stayed in touch out of a shared interest in finance and outdoor recreation.

In past years, we’d each considered dozens of pitch decks annually from a variety of private investment opportunities.  As we started to explore these deals, it became clear that they require a meaningful amount of time, expertise, and resources to filter and sufficiently vet—with only a few making the final cut. With each of us fully employed and looking to invest under seven figures per opportunity, there was an obvious bottleneck.

We met at a team member’s residence in Vail, Colorado, to discuss how we could leverage our diverse backgrounds to grow our deal flow, efficiently evaluate the opportunities available, and pool our own capital into a portfolio of investments that are not typically available to individual investors. The goal was to guard against financial losses while targeting higher, less correlated returns than would ever be possible on our own.

As we began to benefit from our efforts, we discussed how to expand this platform.  With a mutual love of the outdoors, we launched Sespe Investment Group (SIG) with a nod to the Sespe Wilderness in California.  To us, “Sespe” speaks to consistency, dependability, and calm while enabling adventure and growth.

With enhanced resources, SIG now applies a rigorous approach to diligence and portfolio construction and has gained access to high-quality funds traditionally available to only the largest endowments and family offices.  While our fund participation now extends beyond our immediate friends and family, the initial SIG premise remains—we invest our personal capital alongside our limited partners’ in each funding round.  Our goal is to establish repeat investors that, through SIG, can enjoy outstanding returns, personal attention, and a meaningful improvement to their quality of life.
